Irony

A born-again Christian who believes abortion is a sin failed yesterday to convince a judge that he need not stand trial for murder after he admitted shooting dead an abortion doctor. Scott Roeder, 51, told the court in Wichita, Kansas, that on 30 May 2009, the day before he shot George Tiller, he had bought a .22-calibre gun and bullets and then practised target shooting with his brother.
The fact Roeder was the killer, with a single shot to the head, was not in doubt, but the confession was an attempted defence that he felt forced to act to save the lives of unborn children. He has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder, and yesterday was the first time in US legal history that an anti-abortionist was allowed to present the jury with his justification for murder.

Tiller had long been a target for anti-abortionists as he was one of few doctors prepared to ¬perform legal abortions after 21 weeks of gestation. In 1986 his clinic was bombed and in 1993 he was shot in both arms, but he carried on working.

''But I'll tell you this. Where's this idea that childbirth is a miracle came from. Ha, I missed that fucking meeting, okay? It's a miracle, childbirth is a miracle. No it's not. No more than a miracle than eating food and a turd coming out of your ass. It's a chemical reaction, that's all it fucking is. If, you you wanna know what a miracle is. Raisin' a kid that doesn't talk in a movie theatre. Okay, there, there, there’s a goddamn miracle. It's not a miracle if every nine months any yin yang in the world can drop a litter of these mewling cabbages on our planet. And just in case you haven't seen the single mom statistics lately - the miracle is spreading like wildfire. Hallelujah! Trailer parks and council flats all over the world just filling up with little miracles. Thunk, thunk, thunk, like frogs laying eggs. Thunk, ‘look at all my little miracles’, thunk, ‘filling up my trailer like a sardine can’. Thunk. ‘You know what would be a real miracle, if I could remember your daddy's name, aargh’, thunk.''

Bunch Of Phonies Mourn J.D. Salinger

CORNISH, NH—In this big dramatic production that didn't do anyone any good (and was pretty embarrassing, really, if you think about it), thousands upon thousands of phonies across the country mourned the death of author J.D. Salinger, who was 91 years old for crying out loud. "He had a real impact on the literary world and on millions of readers," said hot-shot English professor David Clarke, who is just like the rest of them, and even works at one of those crumby schools that rich people send their kids to so they don't have to look at them for four years. "There will never be another voice like his." Which is exactly the lousy kind of goddamn thing that people say, because really it could mean lots of things, or nothing at all even, and it's just a perfect example of why you should never tell anybody anything. www.theonion.com

Copyright Criminals

Copyright Criminals is a documentary featuring interviews with artists including Pete Rock, El-P, Chuck D and De La Soul. The doc also highlights a handful of artists who have been sampled – such as Clyde Stubblefield: “I didn’t know anything about sampling until people came up and said some other artist is using your drum pattern…So many groups have sampled my stuff... They say I’m the world’s number one sampled drummer; I haven’t got a penny for it yet though.”

It's the 'H' in Isaac H...

First I'd like to say thanks to the Metro for putting the photograph of a dead baby in Haiti on the front page this morning. No no - that's great. Super way to start my morning you amateur, wannabe journalist fucks.

Ok, so tomorrow we are off to see this dude RAMBLE ON for like 3 hours on various topics. It'll be around the 6th time we've seen Hank 'speaking words'. I just hope the seats at the RFH aren't all gnarly like the last time we were there. I'm 36, I need to stretch my legs.

Ink, sweat, tears

Charles at Ink Sweat & Tears has kindly published a new short story of mine, Check it out here and leave a comment if you like. Also have a look around the site, they have a good mix of poetry and stories to fill your day.

Samantha-Jane Brigstock was a very plain girl. Not that anyone would know it as she never appeared in public – or anywhere else, unless under several layers of makeup and colourful clothing. Usually homemade items that were knitted or salvaged from the bottom of various family members closets and charity shops.

INTERVENTION

At some point Lu will have a blog up and running with actual stuff on it. In the meantime, HERE is some information on the latest photographic show that she has been working on.

Shadow

A letter from one Mr Josh Davis to you:

Time for a little straight talk, from one reasonably intelligent human being to YOU, the reasonably intelligent reader. As distasteful as it may sound, the fact is that so many of our heroes: Jimi Hendrix, John Coltrane, The Beatles, whoever you care to name; generated much of their best art in return for financial compensation. If you take away the compensation, guess what…the art stops.

RIP TV

End of an era:

This bad boy has been around for like 7-8 years. I got it free from the staff room at 'the worst place to work in the world-ever in history(.com)' just before I left as they were chucking it out. A few weeks back it powered down for the last time and I wasn't able to resuscitate him. As you can see it was where I'd put most of my free stickers. Bye bye old friend. Added to that yesterday - on the way back from a little skate I lost my black hat. Annoying.
